Project Overview

John Churcher Electrical, part of the ERS Group, was proud to contribute to the Cardiff University Translational Research Facility (TRF), a state-of-the-art research and innovation hub located on the £300 million Cardiff University Innovation Campus.

The TRF is a flagship facility, combining cutting-edge research, business development, and student enterprise under one roof. It includes advanced laboratories, cleanrooms, breakout spaces, and collaborative working zones, supporting Cardiff University’s mission to foster innovation and industry collaboration.

Scope of Work

As a trusted sub-contractor to N G Bailey, we provided comprehensive electrical solutions to ensure the facility was equipped to meet the needs of advanced research and innovation activities. Our services included:

Lighting & Lighting Controls: Installed energy-efficient lighting systems across the facility, including laboratories, cleanrooms, collaborative workspaces, and breakout zones, creating a highly functional and welcoming environment.

Data & Communications Networks: Designed and installed robust data systems to support cutting-edge research, technology transfer, and enterprise activities.

Security & Access Control: Delivered advanced security systems, including access control and CCTV, ensuring safety and secure operations throughout the facility.

Power Supply for Research Equipment: Installed low voltage distribution systems to provide reliable power to specialised research equipment, including the state-of-the-art 8-inch fabrication line and cleanroom facilities.

Fire Systems: Integrated modern fire detection and alarm systems to ensure the safety of occupants and compliance with industry standards.

Electrical Testing & Inspection: Conducted thorough testing to ensure all installations met compliance standards and were fully operational.
